Eldorado Athletic Department Philosophy
It is the philosophy of the Eldorado High School Department that athletic programs play a very important role in a school’s culture, and are designed to provide valuable learning experiences for the student-athletes. We believe that interscholastic athletics complement our academic programs and helps provide our students with a well-rounded education.
The athletic programs at Eldorado are intended to develop our athletes into winners in their sports and to develop a success oriented attitude towards life. In athletics, no one performs well accidentally; it is the result of preparation. The same is true of life; a person who sets goals, works hard to achieve them, will succeed. Preparation provides a sense of confidence. Though athletics we are preparing our students to be successful in many areas beyond athletics. We believe that participation in high school athletic programs teach value that make students happier and better citizens, builds strong minds and bodies, instills confidence and poise, and emphasizes that competition, as is in academics, is a continual process to become a better person.
We also believe that a classroom is a location where instruction takes place. Athletic venues are an extension of these classrooms. It is expected, therefore, that all coaches, working with students will adhere to the ethical standards expected of a classroom instructor regardless of the location. The position of a coach/role model for youth of the CCSD cannot be taken lightly. Coaches assigned to such positions are expected to demonstrate the highest qualities of integrity, respect, responsibility and courage, and expect the same from their athletes.
At all levels of competition, Eldorado High School’s Athletic Department will make every effort to see that each athlete’s experience is successful by striving for a winning attitude, excellence in the classroom, encouraging maximum participation, by teaching the values of teamwork, unity, tenacity, leadership, and a firm commitment to “Sundevil Pride”.
